Buff and Shine 700Y 7" Flex Edge Grip Backing Plate is a professional rotary backing plate featuring a 7-inch diameter, flexible edge, J-hook grip surface, and 5/8"-11 female thread. Designed for use with compatible grip-style buffing pads, including many 7.5", 8", and 9" Buff and Shine pads with a 7" attachment area, it provides secure pad engagement and added flexibility for polishing curved and contoured surfaces.
The Buff and Shine 700Y Flex Edge Grip Backing Plate is a professional-grade 7-inch rotary backing plate engineered for compounding, polishing, and finishing applications. It features a 5/8"-11 female threaded connection, making it compatible with many standard rotary polishers used in automotive, marine, RV, fiberglass, and professional detailing applications.
The 700Y uses Buff and Shine's J-hook grip attachment system to securely hold compatible hook-and-loop style buffing pads. Its flexible edge construction gives the backing plate additional movement around the perimeter, making it more forgiving when polishing curved panels, contours, fiberglass hulls, gelcoat surfaces, and body lines.
Although the backing plate itself measures 7 inches in diameter, it is designed to work with several larger Buff and Shine pads that use a 7-inch loop/attachment area. For example, Buff and Shine specifies the 700Y for its 7.5-inch wool pads, 8-inch foam pads, and 9-inch contour foam pads.
The flexible design helps maintain more consistent pad contact while providing better control than a completely rigid plate when working over uneven or contoured surfaces. This makes the 700Y especially useful for boat and RV detailing, where large fiberglass and gelcoat surfaces often include curves and transitions.
