Tooling Gelcoat (No Wax) is a premium NPG-Isophthalic polyester tooling gelcoat formulated for mold construction and mold repair where exceptional gloss, hardness, scratch resistance, and dimensional stability are critical. This unwaxed (laminating) tooling gelcoat allows multiple coats to chemically bond without sanding between applications and delivers a durable, porosity-free surface with excellent mold life. MEKP catalyst required (sold separately or available as an option).

Our Tooling Gelcoat (No Wax) is a premium NPG-Isophthalic polyester tooling gelcoat specifically engineered for building high-quality fiberglass molds and tooling where maximum gloss, hardness, scratch resistance, and dimensional stability are essential. Designed for professional mold makers and composite fabricators, this tooling gelcoat creates durable mold surfaces capable of producing high-quality composite parts while extending the service life of fiberglass molds.

This non-waxed (laminating) tooling gelcoat remains slightly tacky after curing, allowing additional coats to chemically bond without sanding between applications. It is ideal for building tooling thickness in multiple layers before applying a final finishing coat when required.

Manufactured from a tough Neopentyl-Isophthalic polyester resin, this tooling gelcoat is formulated to produce a dense, porosity-free surface with excellent gloss retention. When properly applied, it provides balanced viscosity, rapid cure, uniform gel characteristics, and outstanding resistance to pinholes and wrinkling, helping produce molds with exceptional surface quality.

For tooling repairs or to increase gloss, this gelcoat may also be mixed with Duratec High Gloss Additive to produce an exceptionally smooth, high-gloss finish.

Application Tips

For best results, plugs should be thoroughly cleaned and polished before application, as tooling gelcoat will reproduce even the smallest imperfections. Recommended application temperature is 65°F to 85°F. Below this range additional catalyst may be required, while temperatures above 85°F may require mixing smaller batches due to faster curing.

MEKP Catalyst Options

We offer three catalyst sizes to match your purchase:

15cc – Enough catalyst for 1 quart at approximately 2%
30cc – Enough catalyst for 1 gallon at approximately 0.75%
60cc – Enough catalyst for 1 gallon at approximately 2%

If you are working in temperatures below 75°F, we recommend selecting the 60cc catalyst with each gallon to ensure you have enough catalyst available for proper curing.

Orders containing Hazardous Materials will only be shipped UPS Ground or by Common Carrier.
